Life's a Journey...

It's said that life is a journey, not a destination. Well, for me the journey is just beginning.

I've had the opportunity in the recent past to work as a Collegiate Minister with Revolution Ministries at THE Colorado College in Colorado Springs and I loved it. Recently, I've stepped into a completely different role, a completely different world, and in so many ways at times I feel pretty lost. This journey is being recorded in the hopes that by documenting the path I can help someone through their personal excursion of discovery; I want to remember the divets and the canyons, the easier walks and the down-hill slides, everything that I feel and discover along the way. I'm inviting you to come along with me as I walk this path and through my experiences I really hope that you can grow and empathize with my joy and with my pain. Mostly, I hope that through this you can see my need for complete surrender to Jesus Christ and the joy that comes from truly following the one who paved the path we all walk on. Here we go...

Hope

Well last weekend several members of Calvary sat down and walked through the calendar for the next year.  All of our dreams for ministry were neatly bundled in 12 sheets of paper, each one representing a different season, a different purpose, and a different set of passions.  Those who might volunteer to serve during the upcoming Harvest Party might not join in volunteering for the community Thanksgiving Dinner.  Other people might find themselves joining in everything, from Easter Egg hunts to Vacation Bibles School to Youth Group Christmas parties.

Spending those hours talking about the future made me dwell a little bit on the last year.  Our family has now been a part of Calvary long enough to not feel brand new.  Talking about the upcoming year made me ponder how far God has taken this church in 13 months.  We are we, not us and them; we are one, unified in Christ to accomplish the mission of "Loving Jesus, Loving People, and Serving All"; we are gifted in many different ways and through the past year we have seen the gifts present themselves at the most opportune times.  Calvary has grown in so many ways and Calvary is continuing to realize that the goal is to keep on growing...in passion for Christ, for each other, for the community, and for the continuation of our mission.  We have seen people begin relationships with Jesus, accepting His love and forgiveness and beginning the journey of discovery that will last the rest of their lives; we have seen people Biblically baptized and  latch onto the symbolism of dying to self, new from the old, life from lifelessness; we have watched God work, and have joined Him as He made Himself apparent to so many in the San Luis Valley; we have made Monte Vista a better place by our existence here and we will continue to do so as Christ empowers us to breath light and life into this community.

Just a calendar session?  I don't think so.  What Calvary did this past weekend was cast vision over the next year and the result was a time of recollection, a commemoration of realized dreams, and an optimistic launch towards all of the possibilities God has for Calvary and the San Luis Valley in the future.  Unexpectedly, our calendaring session was a time of testimony to God's faithfulness and the hope that He will continue to use this church well into the future.  I love where are now but I'm even more thrilled about our future.  Truly, there's nothing more exciting than hope...
